Pubs are incredibly important to our communities. Some guests have been visiting the same pub since they were children; a local might pop for a pint like clockwork after work, some visit to reunite with old friends, and others walk through the doors for the very first time as newbies to the area.

All of these customers have one thing in common - they want to feel welcome. Pubs see hundreds of new faces every year, yet the people behind the bar will often remember you, greet you with a smile, and make you feel like part of the furniture. That is what makes a pub such an important part of the community. Across our pub estate, that sense of belonging goes far beyond serving a pint; our pubs create spaces where the wider community can come together.

From supporting local businesses and providing jobs in the community, to hosting coffee mornings, creative workshops and charity fundraisers, our pubs create places where people feel connected. There is always something happening, and many of our pubs go above and beyond to support the communities around them. Take a look at some of our pubs in and around Stockport below:

Dog & Partridge, Great Moor

Karen at the Dog & Partridge is well known throughout the Stockport area for her dedication to the local community. The pub hosts a packed monthly calendar of events and activities, from their ADHD support group SPACE, to “Friendly Faces” every Tuesday - an open invitation for anyone to pop in for a chat. The Dog & Partridge also hosts musical lunches and evening entertainment throughout the month, welcome for everyone to join.

THE RAILWAY, ROSE HILL

The Railway in Rose Hill is another fantastic community pub that regularly hosts events for local residents. On the first Thursday of every month, the pub hosts an over-75s social group, alongside its popular “Mingles” singles nights. Earlier this year, the team also organised a Pints & Ponytails event, where dads could learn how to style their daughters’ hair while meeting and socialising with other dads in the community. They also host 'Mums Meet Up' for mums wanting to meet up and be involved in the local community.

Check out their website or follow them on Facebook to keep up to date with future events:

The Railway also hosts themed quizzes throughout the week, making it the perfect place for a little friendly competition, great company, and even the chance to win a cash prize.

The Snipe, Audenshaw

The Snipe is everything you could want from a local pub. From family-friendly events where children can enjoy visiting the pub’s guinea pigs, grabber machines and sweet stations, to quiz nights, live music and a welcoming atmosphere, the pub has created a space where everyone feels comfortable. Kate and the team are passionate about creating an environment where people of all ages feel able to come together, have fun, and even openly talk about mental health.

Windsor Castle, Marple Bridge

Over the years, Joe at the Windsor Castle has built a remarkable sense of community in Marple Bridge. Many visitors already know (or recognise) Joe through her active presence on Facebook before they even step through the pub doors. From fundraising for Francis House, to hosting a weekly ladies’ darts team and supporting local charities, Joe’s involvement within the community goes far beyond the pub itself. Add to that live music, themed food nights and regular events throughout the week, and it is easy to see why the Windsor Castle has become such a valued part of village life.
