THE COCK & MAGPIE REOPENS AFTER COMPLETE RENNOVATION

The Cock and Magpie, situated in Whitworth, has captivated the community after receiving a complete transformation from Stockport based Robinsons Brewery. The pub is most popular with walkers who ramble in the hills behind the pub, and with water-sports enthusiasts who use the nearby Cowm reservoir for sailing and water skiing - but a nine-week refurbishment was required to restore the pub back to its glory days as the heart of the community.

Both inside and out have now been transformed, creating the perfect spaces for a relaxing pint and bite to eat, watching sport with friends or enjoying the views from the garden terrace with a coffee - the Cock and Magpie can cater for all occasions!

Tony Massey, Business Development Manager at Robinsons, said:Fundamentally we kept the layout of the pub in its original format, the vault and a lounge remain with the bar in the middle serving both sides. We introduced a new universally accessible toilet by revising the circulation routes and formed a new more efficient route for food to be carried through from the kitchen to the lounge side. We removed all the textured coatings from the walls in the lounge side which revealed the original stonework underneath, allowing us to create a more traditional country feel.”

The vision was to design a countrified and timeless pub, which would feel comfortable and inviting for all ages. The core scheme was sympathetic to the period of the building, ensuring that it remained traditional whilst also adding a contemporary feel.

Revel in an enhanced games room with darts and pool, comfy snug areas with a real country feel with new seating, complimented by a pastel green and an oak colour scheme to partner with the rural surroundings.

The pub now offers an extended range of draught beers, including Hopnik Citra IPA and Helles, two of Robinsons’ newest keg products, complimented by an exciting range of well-kept cask ales and lagers. The spirit range has also been enhanced to cover some new rums and gins, and you can now enjoy a range of hot drinks for those on a long walk around the reservoir.
