Robinsons host PSA testing day in partnership with Prostate Cancer Support

As part of our ongoing partnership with Prostate Cancer Support and our commitment to raising awareness of prostate cancer, we welcomed visitors to our Brewery Visitors Centre on Sunday 29th March for a dedicated PSA blood testing day. The event saw a strong turnout, with 118 men attending for a free PSA blood test over the course of the day.

Over the past 12 months, we have raised money and awareness for Prostate Cancer Support through fundraising activity, events and beer sales, helping to support awareness work and prostate cancer testing locally. The Visitors Centre testing day was a practical example of that support in action, bringing testing directly into the heart of our community.

In the lead-up to the event, we carried out targeted outreach to encourage people to take part. Colleagues from across our business were invited to attend, alongside customers from our Stockport pubs and those in the surrounding area. We also encouraged our Pub Partners to share the opportunity with their teams and customers, helping to ensure the testing day reached people both within Robinsons and the communities our pubs serve.

A PSA test would typically cost around £26 per person, but through the sales of Check Mate, our charity beer brewed in support of Prostate Cancer Support, we were able to partner with the charity to host the testing day entirely free of charge. For every firkin of Check Mate sold, a donation is made to help fund prostate cancer awareness and testing, with proceeds used directly to support initiatives like the Visitors Centre testing day.

Alongside the testing itself, visitors were welcomed into the wider Visitors Centre experience. One of our Shire Horses was on hand to greet attendees, with opportunities to sample Check Mate and spend time exploring the Robinsons museum, located within the historic old brewery site. The setting helped create a relaxed and welcoming environment, reinforcing the role of our brewery and pubs as places where the community can come together.

Results from the day highlighted the importance of early testing. Of the 118 tests carried out, 22 men were identified as needing further investigation, giving them the opportunity to seek follow‑up advice at an early stage.

This testing day reflects our belief that pubs and breweries play an important role in supporting their local communities. By using our beer, spaces and reach to fund testing, start conversations and remove barriers to access, we hope to encourage others to get involved, support similar initiatives and help make prostate health something more people feel comfortable talking about.
