Robinsons pubs raise awareness and fund prostate cancer support services

Over the last year we’ve developed a great partnership with Prostate Cancer Support, helping to spread the awareness of PSA testing and the support the organisation provides for those living with prostate cancer.

Who is Prostate Cancer Support?

Prostate Cancer Support is a Stockport‑based charity working across the North West, offering peer support, education and access to PSA blood testing. Our work together began through awareness talks for our colleagues and small‑scale fundraising, and has grown into a wider partnership focused on a wider impact for our local communities.

We’ve worked closely with Phil Ormesher, Martin Stocker and Ian Cameron from the not-for-profit to explore ways to make testing more accessible to the people who live, work and socialise around our pubs.

So far, Robinsons has raised more than £6,000 in support of Prostate Cancer Support through a combination of internal events and fundraising raffles across our pubs. This March, in aid of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we’re launching a limited-edition cask beer.

Introducing Check Mate

Check Mate♟️ is our new 3.4% limited‑edition pale ale, created in collaboration with Prostate Cancer Support.

This beer has been shaped by the people closest to the charity. The name ‘Check Mate’ was suggested by the charity’s service users, while the style of beer was chosen by the volunteers who help run the organisation day to day. We created the liquid, team PCS came up with the concept.

Every cask of Check Mate stocked in our pubs plays a direct role in supporting prostate health awareness and testing within our communities. Keep reading…

Turning beer into testing

For every cask of Check Mate our pubs buy, Robinsons will fund a PSA blood test for one of our pub‑goers. So the more you enjoy the beer, the more you’re supporting the work of the organisation.

A PSA test is a simple blood test that can help identify potential prostate health issues early. There is currently no routine screening programme, which means events like this and awareness raising are key.

From the pints you buy, it goes directly to funding our very own testing day. We’re hosting our own PSA blood testing day.
