The Red Bull, situated in the pleasant village of Church Lawton, has recently reopened following a £200k 6-week refurbishment by Stockport based Robinsons Brewery and licensees Malcolm O’May and Gary Bate, to bring this canal-side local back to life.
The pub has benefitted from a full internal and external refurbishment, retaining its homely feel yet updating and modernising the whole premises to maximise its full potential. The Red Bull now boasts a stunning new oak bar which has been re-located to a central, more visible location. Illuminated with decorative antique brass lighting and feature frosted globe lighting, the bar now adds a touch of individuality.
The Red Bull offers a range of Robinsons cask beers, premium lagers and an extensive portfolio of wines, spirits and bottled beers. The pub is open daily for food and offers a brand-new traditional pub classics menu, daily specials and the well-known delicious Sunday lunches.
Malcolm O’May, Licensee at the Red Bull, said: “I think that the refurbishment has been a great success and it is more like a total transformation than just a refurbishment. We are getting a lot of positive comments and the new universal access facility has proven a useful addition. People are coming for a look, liking what they see and enjoying the good food, good beer and friendly atmosphere. We are now all looking forward to a busy time as the weather picks up and folk can sit out in the beer garden and watch the canal boats.”
A rich palette of greens was applied throughout the pub, along with sea green floral feature wallpaper to the main snug room. Planked timber flooring flows through the pub, creating a fresh feel against the deeper shades of green. Various furnishing fabrics were used to add pattern and texture, perfectly complementing classic aged brown leathers to the new seating.
The toilets have additionally benefited from a full renovation, with a classic tile scheme. A new accessible WC area with level access into the pub through the main front entrance now makes the pub more accessible for all.
A log burning stove has been added to the existing open fireplace, and another gleaming feature fire stove to the far room, creating a cosy area to relax and wind down with friends and family. The Red Bull now exists as an up-to-date traditional pub with a nod to the canal side location; embracing local history with black and white photographs which adorn the walls to add some local interest. The function room has also received a makeover making it a great asset for groups, functions and private parties.
Wayne Roach, Business Development Manager at Robinsons Brewery, said: “The vision was to retain a traditional and relaxed feel throughout and create a pub which had a broad appeal for locals, destination trade and canal users. The toilets needed upgrading and the function room required redecoration and refurbishment also. Overall the premises have been transformed without losing the character and charm of a traditional canal side pub.”
Externally, a new decoration scheme was implemented along with a new signage, lighting and landscaping scheme to really give the pub kerbside appeal.
The new look pub comfortably caters for diners and drinkers alike and will appeal to loyal and regular customers as well as transient trade. The pub has been given a new lease of life, making it airier and customer friendly.
