Helen Preece, Head Horseperson at Robinsons Brewery, explains: “All at Robinsons care deeply for our Shire horses. Not only are they a huge part of our heritage but they’re also part of the family. Both Hopnik and Wizard have enjoyed a great life at Robinsons and we always keep their best interests at heart. Hopnik is thirteen years old now, and Wizard eleven, so we feel that this is the right time for them both to take a step back, slow down and enjoy the finer things in life. Robinsons are busier than ever, and we’re quite tight on space; having three Shires but only two stables at the brewery here in Stockport. The pair will move into the caring hands of their new owners, Maggie and Tony Smith.”
Their new owners, Maggie and Tony, have a wealth of experience working with gentle giants, specialising in agricultural and trade turnout.
Maggie Smith said: “We are really looking forward to getting the boys home to start their new lives flying the flag for Eglwyseg Shires. The boys will continue to live an enjoyable and active life, visiting shows, steam fairs and parades in England and Wales.”
Helen continues: “Hopnik and Wizard are like two brothers, they’re inseparable, so we are very happy that the pair are staying together. They are going to a great home in Eglwyseg, near Llangollen in Denbighshire, and will have their last appearance together to represent Robinsons Brewery at Country File at the Blenheim Palace from Thursday 3rd August – Sunday 6th August.”
“And not to forget our treasured Shire Bobek, who we can say is rather pleased that he will no longer be the third wheel of the bunch! Bobek will be able to indulge in all the attention as the main man at the brewery, and will continue to proudly represent the company in single competitions.”
Robinsons Shires are proud to represent Robinsons Brewery at regional and national shows, carnival and fates all over the UK, and a variety of special appearances at events such as Country File Live, beer festivals and Robinsons’ pub refurbishments. Robinsons Shires are also available for dray rides with afternoon tea, experience days, weddings, and visits (if on site) during brewery tours at Robinsons Visitors Centre.
Robinsons will be down to the single Shire horse for a limited time only… Watch this space for news of a new arrival. Once the new hoofs arrive, you will be the first to know.
