Northwich pub, The Leigh Arms and First Class Wrestling are getting ready to ‘Lay the Smackdown’ on Meningitis with the return of their free wrestling event on Saturday 16th May.
For the 5th year running, First Class Wrestling, a wrestling promotion based out of the North-East, will return to the Robinsons pub; the only pub in the country to host live pro-wrestling.
The free event will aim to beat last year’s total of £2000 raised for Meningitis Now; a charity that rebuilds lives and funds lifesaving research for people affected by Meningitis.
Joanne Higham, Licensee of The Leigh Arms, said: “Over the past 5 years we’ve raised a phenomenal £6000 and seen over 1000 people come to the event. The show is great fun for the whole family and extremely popular. It’s an event that we all look forward to hosting every year as it really brings everyone together for a great cause.”
Making a welcome return to the Leigh Arms is fan favourite Tony Spitfire along with former British and European Champion James Mason, Little Legs (the smallest wrestler in the world!) and, for the first time, female Wrestler Xia Brookside; proving that the ladies can show the men a thing or two when it comes to ring prowess.
On top of public donations and local businesses donating prizes for the raffle and tombola, Barclays Bank have agreed to match the fundraising of the event up to £1000.
Joanne Higham said: “We want to thank all the businesses who have supported us over the years, we really couldn’t have done it without you! We hope that this year we can raise more than ever!”
The bone crunching action starts at 2pm this Saturday. After the event there will be a unique opportunity to meet the wrestlers in person followed by live music from 6pm by local band Smoke Shack.
The Leigh Arms will be serving award-winning Robinsons cask ale throughout the day along with American style food and its usual menu.
The event is free and held at the Leigh Arms, Warrington Road, Little Leigh, Northwich, Cheshire, CW8 4QT.
