The Leigh Arms pub, Northwich, and First Class Wrestling have helped put a ‘headlock’ on Meningitis by raising over £2200 for charity.
The free wrestling event, which is held annually at the Robinsons pub, was spectated by hundreds of people and featured ten of the top British independent wrestlers from around the country.
Despite all the towering giants that dominated the ring, the show was stolen by ‘Little Legs’ – a 3ft 7inch pro wrestler from Oxford, known by the moniker ‘The Smallest Wrestler in the World’.
The hundred strong crowd roared with laughter as he and fellow wrestler Frankie Sloan attempted to take down the 26 stone giant; Colossus Kennedy in the match that closed the show.
Speaking after the event, Little Legs exclaimed: “I’ve enjoyed myself so much this year so you can rest assured that I will be back next year!”
The event was not only a fantastic spectacle for the whole family, it was a success for the chosen charity Meningitis Now. At the final count, the amount raised for the charity was £2202.00 – smashing last year’s fundraising record.
Licensee Jo Higham spoke of the event: “It’s such a pleasure to have the guys here every year, they may have tough personas but really do have hearts of gold. Without them we would have never raised this amount. We can’t wait to have them back next year; the pints of Unicorn are on us!”
The Leigh Arms continues to be the only pub in the country to present live wrestling and Joanne and the team have already begun to plan next year’s event.
The next event at The Leigh arms will be the ‘Rhythm on the River’ music festival on Saturday 9th August.
