THE QUEENS PUB IN STOCKPORT RECEIVES A ROYAL UPDATE

The Queens pub in Portwood, Stockport, receives a royal refurbishment
Licensee Sue shows off her new look pub

The Queens pub in Portwood, Stockport, has reopened following an investment from Robinsons Brewery and Licensee Sue Igbon.

The popular pub was closed for ten days whilst Robinsons' design and property team transformed the interior to create a modern and welcoming community pub that champions local award-winning cask ales.

Licensee Sue Igbon said: “The Queens has always been a traditional community pub with its own unique local charm. However, the inside of the pub didn’t meet the expectations presented from the outside. A couple of years ago, the pub received new signage and the outside was completely redecorated. Whilst this helped attract customers to our pub, the interior was still very dated and in need of a fresh coat of paint so it was really an easy decision when Robinsons approached us with a vision to modernise the pub."

Ideally situated just a stone’s throw from the Mersey Way Shopping Centre and on the doorstep of the Peel Centre, The Queens benefits from a great mixture of passing trade in the day; from a thriving business community to a bustling shopping precinct. At night and weekends, The Queens comes alive as a true community local with traditional pub games, a popular quiz, live televised sport, and occasional entertainment.

Following the intense makeover, the interior is now as appealing and welcoming as the exterior is inviting. The Queen’s new colour scheme, a combination of muted stone greens and earthy forest grey tones, has created the feeling of light and space. New feature pendant lighting catch the eye and reflect the industrial ambience that runs throughout the pub. Carefully selected vintage pictures of Stockport and the surrounding areas adorn the walls creating talking points and subtle nods to the place in which it is located.

New timber effect flooring has replaced the worn-out carpets, feature tiles in traditional grey, white and black Victorian style have been applied to the entrance and the bar, the toilets have been fully updated and renovated with traditional olive metro tiles, a real hop vine runs across the ceiling of the new lounge area, and the fixed seating areas have been lovingly re-upholstered in brown leather which offsets the quirky industrial fittings that have become a trademark of Robinsons’ refurbishments.

"The new look is perfectly pitched for our pub” explains Sue. “The inside now matches the outside expectations but it hasn’t lost any of the individuality that our customers loved. It’s still very much a traditional ale house and that’s part of The Queen’s charm. I can't thank Robinsons enough for their hard work and support."

Over recent years, Stockport has received significant investment from local government and private business in order to attract more people out of central Manchester to see what the traditional industrial town has to offer. The Queens is one of the many local pubs in the area that Robinsons have invested in over the last few years with neighbouring sites like the Flying Coach, Puss in Boots, Bakers Vaults, Blossoms, and Travellers Call, to name a few, all receiving substantial brewery investment.

Tony Massey, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery said: "We are extremely proud of all our pubs and our heartland certainly holds a special place in our hearts. The Queens continues the regeneration not only of our pubs in the area but also working alongside the redevelopment and regeneration of Stockport as a whole. Stockport is becoming a real hotspot for brilliant pubs and brilliant beer.

The Queens is open now and offering free Wi-Fi, a rotating range of Robinsons cask ales, and an extended range of lagers, wines, spirits, and coffee. The Queens also offers overnight accommodation with three cosy en-suite letting rooms ideal for visitors looking for easy access to both Stockport town centre and the M60.
