Manchester is one of the best cities in the UK for music. A city of revolution and change; it has also been the birthplace of countless iconic artists and bands. It was during the post-punk era that Manchester truly took music by the scruff of its neck, storming the scene and shaping sounds that would travel the world.
As a North West-based brewery that’s been around since 1838, we’ve witnessed first-hand how music has become a huge part of the city’s cultural makeup. So, it only feels right that we shine a spotlight on some of the much-loved music pubs in our Manchester estate.
The Blossoms, Heaviley

Well, where do we begin? We’ve had The Blossoms since 1949, and it sits just a five-minute drive from the brewery. A traditional, historic pub with a strong music offering, The Blossoms has long been a popular venue in Stockport.
With bands playing throughout the month and open mic nights, it’s a place that gives emerging talent the chance to step into the spotlight. And the name? You might recognise it. In 2013, indie band Blossoms – formed by Tom Ogden, Charlie Salt, Josh Dewhurst, Joe Donovan and Myles Kellock – began their journey to musical fame, taking inspiration for their name from our very own pub. A fun fact for some of you, eh?

The Castle Hotel, Manchester

If you’re a regular in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, chances are you’ve already paid a visit to The Castle. A pub brimming with character, both in its walls and its regulars – The Castle Hotel has been part of our estate since the 1920s and is now our only Manchester city-centre pub.
Sitting slap bang in the middle of Oldham Street, it’s always buzzing, whether people are popping in for a pint or heading in to catch up-and-coming acts in the intimate function rooms. Joy Division even played here in their early days, and countless artists have passed through over the years, enjoying a pint as they paved their own musical paths.
Take a visit to The Castle next time you are in Manchester…
Red Bull, Lower Hillgate

Now, onto The Red Bull. If you happened to read our Unicorn issue in June 2025, you may already know this story. The pub is now home to a commemorative plaque dedicated to Eric Haydock, the original bassist of The Hollies, honouring Stockport’s rich musical heritage. The plaque was unveiled on Sunday 4th May, recognising Haydock’s connection to the pub during his time managing the Rhythm House Music Shop, when he was a regular at the Red Bull.
This also feels like a fitting homage to our (relatively) new Pub Partner, Emma, who is bringing the music back in a big way. Think classic tracks spun by DJs on vinyl in the evenings, jazz nights, and line-ups packed with local talent from across Stockport and Manchester.
Music is well and truly back at the Red Bull and if you are in the mood for live music nights, vintage shopping or weekly entertainment in Stockport, you can definitely find something on at the Red Bull. Visit the website or socials for more:
