After an eight-week refurbishment, The Unicorn Inn in Ambleside has been completely elevated inside. The Unicorn Inn has been registered as an inn since 1692, and part of our estate since 1992, but has seen very few changes over the recent years. The recent refurbishment has given the pub a new lease of life, enhancing its existing country pub atmosphere while remaining true to its heritage.
Inside, what was once a dated space, is now filled with beautiful reupholstered and reclaimed furniture, stained-glass features, and Ambleside inspired artwork throughout. The pubs original features have been restored and enhanced to celebrate the building’s history, including exposed traditional Cumbrian stone walls revealed after removing layers of plaster, reclaimed herringbone flooring, new panelling, and restored beams that have been silicone blasted to return to their original character.
The bar area has been redesigned to improve flow and create more space, creating a more open and welcoming area for all. A new reclaimed fireplace now sits at the heart of the pub, blending into the building as though it has always been there. The rear seating area has been transformed into a cosy snug, which only adds to the warm, English country pub feel.
Other thoughtful touches include a two-tone scrumbled ceiling effect, illuminated stained glass behind the bar, and walls decorated with artwork and walking maps inspired by Ambleside and the surrounding Lake District landscape. The new inner lobby now opens up the view of the pub as guests walk in, making it a much more welcoming space. The investment also included a fully fitted new catering kitchen, now serving menu for guests to try.
Upstairs, the inn’s five letting bedrooms have also undergone complete refurbishment, including structural alterations, full redecoration, and all-new furnishings. Designed with muted greens, earthy tones, and nature-inspired artwork, the rooms now offer the perfect place to rest after a day exploring the Lakes.
Externally, the building has been redecorated to remain in keeping with the surrounding area, while a brand-new roof was installed during the refurbishment works, requiring a temporary road closure – which Robinsons would like to thank the local community and the council for their patience during this time. The investment also includes a fully fitted new catering kitchen, now serving a brand-new menu for guests to try.

Visit The Unicorn Inn for yourself and book a nights stay to experience the stunning new rooms.
