Overview

The Ship Inn is situated on the hill, around a quarter of a mile from the centre of Coniston village. The Ship Inn is a traditional 18th century pub with a warm and cosy atmosphere. It currently offers a range of real ale, along with home cooked food and as a bonus two en-suite bedrooms are found on the first floor, a perfect base for exploring the beautiful Lake District fells and the historic path of the Cumbrian Way. The inn is overlooked by the iconic Old Man of Coniston fell and the Cumbria Way trail runs close by, giving easy access from the inn to Coniston Water. Its welcoming interiors with a traditional pub style décor and a roaring log fire make it the perfect place to relax after a long walk. There is no traditional beer garden here, but the Ship does have several picnic benches outside the front of the pub. There is parking, but it is very limited, there is parking in Coniston, which visitors can the walk along the Cumbrian Way to reach the pub. Robinsons are looking for an operator to drive the wet, dry and letting rooms forward. This is a perfect opportunity for a licensee to immerse themselves into the Lake District lifestyle, as well as running a superb village pub.

The Detail

A Little more about us

The Ship Inn is situated in Bowmanstead at the top of the hill on the main road overlooking the village of Coniston in the heart of the English Lake District and only a short walk from the famous lake where Donald Campbell attempted his water speed record in Bluebird. Its best feature is The Old Man of Coniston, rising dramatically behind the houses when seen from the village centre. Coniston is a good centre for walkers and climbers and those wanting to investigate the Tiberthwaite Slate Quarries.
