The White Lion is a beautiful 17th century coaching inn which is situated in the picture postcard village of Great Longstone, in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales. Behind the well-maintained exterior lies plenty of cosy, country character of wooden beams and open bare brick fireplaces.

The White Lion is perfectly located just minutes from the stunning Monsal Trail, one of the Peak District’s most popular walking and cycling routes. After a scenic day exploring the trail’s tunnels, viaducts, and beautiful countryside, our cosy pub is the ideal place to unwind, enjoy a pint, and refuel with delicious food.
We’re just a short drive from Thornbridge Estate – a great attraction for a family day out. With nature trails to explore, a charming smallholding to visit, and stunning gardens to wander through, there’s something for everyone, especially the kids.
We’re also super close to Chatsworth House, where you can enjoy everything from picturesque estate walks and learn all about the history of Chatsworth and the Devonshire family, to exploring the grand house itself and meeting the friendly farmyard animals. It’s the perfect place for a full day of discovery and fun!
If you’re nearby, be sure to check out the Heights of Abraham. Hop on the scenic cable car for breathtaking views across the valleys and 60 acres of estate. Once at the top, you can discover the Great Masson Cavern and enjoy a range of attractions.
Visit the medieval Haddon Hall, where guided tours bring its rich history to life. Surrounding the hall lies the park - 187 hectares of stunning parkland, ancient woodland, and tranquil water meadows along the River Wye. Nearly half of this land has remained undisturbed by farming for over 900 years, making it a rare sanctuary for wildlife and a site of significant scientific and ecological value.
