The Gilpin Bridge Inn, started in the 17th century as a coaching inn and records show that it was closed in the early 1900's dues to 'immoral use!!'. In 1872, The Westmorland Gazette reported, on the sale of the farm and innkeepers plant.
The farm buildings are now the cottages adjoining the inn. After this, The Gilpin has been a shop, a transport cafe and finally, re-furbished as an inn when a Mr David Allan purchased the property. After a succession of owners, including, Tetley's. The Gilpin was bought by the Robinsons family brewery who in the infinite wisdom, have allowed us (Scott, Claire, Debbie and co) to put it back on the map, where this wonderful inn belongs.
Our roaring log fire is a real draw, especially with out tropical climate and lakeland showers. Walkers and cyclists enjoy the pub and often use the pub car park as a start/finish point for their days out. We can provide games and crayons to keep your young ones quietly entertained or indeed they can run around our children's play area and entertain themselves while you sit back and relax. If you care to bring the family pooch in for a warm and maybe some treats then please bring them along to say hello, the entire family is welcome.
