The Horse Shoe Inn, situated across eleven acres of farmland in Astbury, has raised an astounding £10,000 for East Cheshire Hospice after holding an extremely successful auction at their countryside pub. Licensees, Mary and Charles Kennerley, have been at the pub for nearly twelve years, and put on this event for the first time to raise some money for a highly serving charity while bringing the local community together.
Mary Kennerley, licensee of the pub, said: “We held an auction one evening where we expected to raise a few hundred pounds for the Hospice, and we couldn’t believe how well it turned out. Locals made some fantastic donations. All of our regular customers got involved, it just shows how a community can come together to offer genuine support, especially for such a worthy cause.”
The auction, which lasted approximately two hours, took place on site at the old Coaching Inn. A professional auctioneer took charge of the event, who was hired following the suggestions of the Horse Shoe’s local customers.
Lisa Ball, Community Fundraiser for East Cheshire Hospice, said: “We were absolutely overwhelmed by the donation. It made a massive impact on the Hospice, ensuring that we can continue to provide the care and support to those who need it. We would like to say a massive thank you to all those who participated in the auction and to the licensees of the Horse Shoe who organised the event.”
Mary continued: “Robinsons also kindly provided a donation. It went from a small event to a huge event! I invited everyone back for dinner at our pub following the success, but then realised it would have been quite a hard job catering for 200 people, so I made 200 sausage rolls and everybody loved them.”
