The Stockport Business awards were set up by Stockport businesses in 2012 to highlight and celebrate business excellence in the region; which is rapidly building a reputation as one of the fastest growing commercial centres in the north of England.
The judges chose to break from tradition this year and present the Special Recognition Award, for the first time ever, to the entire Robinsons family rather than an individual as recognition for over 177 years of business in Stockport and also as part of Robinsons’ commitment to reinvest in the business for future generations and for Stockport as a whole.
Key 103’s Chelsea Norris announced the surprise award: “The award this year goes to a family whose business has been established in Stockport since 1838 and is at the very heart of the town. They have invested millions over the years into the local area, although their products are enjoyed all over the world! Now being managed by the 6th generation the investment doesn’t seem to be slowing down, as they plan to refurbish over two thirds of their pub estate over the next 5 years. I am of course talking about Robinson’s Brewery, one of the largest independent brewers in the UK, and a thriving family business who are proud to handcraft ales from their Stockport home.”
Accepting the award on behalf of the Robinsons family was 5th Generation and Director of Robinsons Brewery, Dennis Robinson, 6th Generation and Director, Veronica Robinson and Robinsons’ current Managing Director (Pubs Division) William Robinson.
Accepting the award from Councillor Iain Roberts, Dennis Robinson, Director of Frederic Robinson Limited said: “This has come as a complete surprise and we are very honoured to receive it. I am here representing the 5th generation with my daughter and son here who are the 6th. We are very proud of our new brew house where we brew beers which are sold around the world, including Trooper which we developed in association with Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, and our Visitors Centre also opened in 2013. My family have now been associated with Stockport since 1838 and with our seventh generation coming along we intend being around for many more years.”
It's an honour to receive this award. We're a true Stockport business & will continue to invest in our heartland. We're proud to promote Stockport through our brilliant pubs across the country & our award-winning cask ales across the globe.
