The ‘Great Strait Raft Run’, which is sponsored by Robinsons, takes place on Sunday 24th May and will see the intrepid crew of eight, captained once again by Business Development Manager John Hughes, attempt to cross one of the most difficult sailing straits in the world on a makeshift raft.
The raft race has seen thousands flock each year to battle through the strong currents against the picturesque backdrop of Snowdonia’s mountains. Starting at the old slate port of Felinheli, the team will head north east for approximately 6 miles, through ‘The Swellies’ made famous by Admiral Lord Nelson, before ending at the iconic Menai Bridge.
This year’s team, named the ‘Dizzy Blondes’ after the award-winning Robinsons beer, have chosen to raise needed funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
John Hughes said: “The RNLI are a fantastic organisation that provide on-call 24 hour search and rescue around the UK and Ireland. It’s estimated that they have helped save at least 140,000 lives at sea since 1824. They are completely funded by charitable donations and we can’t think of a more worthy cause… Let’s hope that we don’t require them on the day!”
