This Saturday, 300 runners from around the country will converge on the small Welsh town of Dolgellau for the annual Cader Idris Mountain Race.
The event, sponsored by Robinsons’ Royal Ship Hotel, is viewed by many as a ‘must do’ on the calendar and regarded as one of the toughest fell races in Wales
The 10.5 mile race starts and finishes in Dolgellau and climbs almost 3000ft to the summit of Pen y Gader. One of the real challenges of the race is the constantly changing terrain, switching from steep metalled roads to flat tracks behind Gwernan Lake, pitched steps up the Pony Path, and picking your way among the boulder fields on the ascent. Competitors then have to turn around and tackle the course in reverse until they reach the finish line.
Simon Taylor, Retail Operations Manager for Robinsons Brewery said: “We’re really proud to be sponsoring this year’s Cader Idris Race. Robinsons have a thriving pub estate in the North of Wales and we’ve always been keen to get involved with local events. The Royal Ship Hotel is the perfect fit to sponsor this event, with our newly refurbished rooms we can offer runners a place to rest after the race as well as pint to celebrate and refresh! We want to wish good luck to everyone competing!”
