Even with the unpredictable British bank holiday weather, which threatened to call off the event, over 80 dogs and their owners entered and competed to help raise over £800 for the shelter.
“It was a smashing day that really brought the community and their four legged friends out in droves” said Joanne Higham, landlady of the Leigh Arms. “It was fantastic to see so many people come together and help raise money for such a wonderful cause.”
Man and his best friend battled it out in several different categories including best fancy dress, waggliest tail and an egg and spoon race that separated the men from the pups! After the smoke cleared it was Millie, an English Jack Russell, who brought home the title of ‘Show Champion 2014’.
Elaine Goulborn of Tails Animal Rescue said: “Raising over £800 is a fantastic amount. The funds will go a very long way in creating better lives for our rescues. Each of our animals require neutering and micro chipping before they can be rehomed and in some cases require expensive medicine to heal them. It’s with donations like this that we can continue to help these animals. We are proud to have rehomed hundreds of animals and we hope the work of our volunteers can continue into the future.”
