“The story of Robinsons Brewery is very special and one that we are very proud to be a part of!” William Robinson, Managing Director (Pub Division), Robinsons Brewery.
Essentially a history of a sturdily independent business, our story is simultaneously a microcosm of the British brewing industry, a chart of social change, a genealogical showcase, and a family story through and through.
The Robinsons family have been brewing beer at the Unicorn brewery in Stockport since 1838, but in the last 12 months alone we have rebuilt our time-honored Victorian brew house, installed the world’s largest Hopnik (a giant tea strainer which extracts many of the great flavours from ‘leaf’ hops which conventionally get boiled away rather than finishing up in the beer), rebranded our family of ales with a fresh new look (and feel), and launched an individual website for each of our pubs... as well as countless other projects and initiatives to ensure that Robinsons are known for our brilliant pubs, beer and people.
Now, as we enter 2013, we celebrate a very special milestone – 175 years of brewing excellence! In honour of our impressive lineage, we are befittingly and proudly launching a new Visitors and Training Centre at Robinsons Brewery.
Come March 2013, you can marvel at the magic of the brewing process, admire new and original brewing equipment as you tour around the brew house, play with interactive screens, create your own perfect pub guide, find your ideal pub to run, visit the Shire horses, buy beer related gifts and also explore some real vintage gems showcasing just how things have changed since 1838. You can even round off your visit with a delicious homemade lunch or afternoon tea – freshly prepared, using local ingredients.
In addition to this, we will be offering industry specific training courses and apprenticeships for the licensed trade, in association with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and Stockport Council, and a top quality training academy rests alongside cutting edge conference facilities. What a perfect opportunity to combine business with the pleasure of touring a working brewery and sampling fine cask ales!
Oliver Robinson, Managing Director (Beer Division) of Robinsons, commented: “Our Visitors Centre is not just about the history of a brewery but of a family which has played – and continues to play – an immensely important role in British Brewing. The Robinsons story will fascinate not only those interested in beer and brewing, but anyone with a taste for the ups and downs of business life over the last 175 years and more.”
